Wars could distort human relationships in plenty of different ways between numerous amounts of people. Connecting to the short story “The Sniper” and the YouTube video we watched in class, it has came to realization that even the strongest bond of compassion between siblings, love between a mother and child, and people’s respect for their own countries’ militaries could be altered by wars. In “The Sniper”, the main character (a sniper) sniped a soldier from his enemy’s army, who was unexpectedly discovered to be his own brother. This event happening could surely result the sniper momentous guilt for killing his own family member, confusion in why his brother was on the opposite team, and also sadness and regret as he would never get to have a explanation. The sniper would never accept his passed away brother the same way again. Furthermore, a similar situation also happened in the YouTube video. In this story, two brothers fought together in a military force, and one accidentally killed another thinking it was his enemy. But, their mother was later on lied to that the dead brother was slaughtered by the opponent. This coincidental kill could cause his mother and other relatives to contain wrong judgments thinking it was a murder. The incorrect accusation added on to extreme guilt and sorrow could just tear the whole mother-son relationship apart. Lastly, as the falsehood informed to the mother could just be completely avoided, the mother would be furious that the military lied about the death of her own son. Her country could just totally lose admiration from this entire family through dishonesty. Nowadays, wars are demolishing the deep affection of families and the high regard the citizens have for their countries. Is this really worth it?
