Progress Update
We took our second photo. This time, we were fairly surprised that our original photo was completely white(black when inverted), unlike our first photo, which was rather dark instead.
Personal /Group Reflection
I thought that me and my partner worked pretty well together. We both contributed equally for taking this photo. Yeonji and I both went into the dark room to load in the photo paper, and then I counted the seconds while Yeonji revealed the pinhole for taking the picture outside. We both feel quite satisfied about our progress, while our only problems were that we had a slight light leak in the dark room and that Yeonji accidentally let the light in the camera by not fully concealing the pinhole using the shutter. We feared that our photo was going to turn out over-exposed.
Condition the Picture was Taken in
Our exposure time for the picture was 5 seconds. We have a tiny pinhole poked by the tip of the lead of a pencil, and our focal length is about 21.5 centimetres . The weather was not so nice seeing as it was a cloudy morning with a darkish sky. We placed the camera on the end of a bench at the edge of the school ground to take a picture of a house across from the school, which was about 15 meters away.
Photo Analysis
Much to our disbelief, our photo turned out entirely white except for a streak of dark line at the top of the photo paper. We could not tell what was in the photo at all. After worrying that our picture was going to be over-exposed caused by the uncovered pinhole and light leak of the dark room, the picture was actually under-exposed instead. I think that the short exposure time, very small pinhole, and dark weather were all responsible for this photo turning out the way it did.
Conclusions
I learned that many factors can have an impact on the turn out of the photos, such as the light leaks in the dark room, the exposure time, the size of the pinhole, and even the elements that we cannot control, like the weather conditions. These factors all affect the composition, darkness, and clarity of the photos, and it is crucial to carefully record and think to fix our mistakes and be more successful in the future.
Ideas for Future Photos
For the next photo, we plan to expose the pinhole for 6 seconds rather than 5 seconds so then the photo would hopefully turn out darker.
