Text-to-Self Connections: This story connects to myself by reminding me of the event of me being locked in a closet when I was a young child, similar to Margot's experience. I was about eight years old, and I was having a few friends over at my house. We began to play hide and seek as we ran away to hide separately. I chose to hide in a overfilled tiny closet. I tried to shut the worn out and shabby closet door as it unexpectedly got locked. After some deafening screaming for a long period of time, my parents rescued me at the end.
Text-to-Text Connections: I think that the story relates to one of the books I have read for summer reading, "I am Number Four". These two stories are alike because they both fictionally consists of stories of characters that take place on different life-sustaining planets. This novel "I am Number Four" tells about a teenage boy, John, who came from one of the only three life-sustaining planets, Lorien, to Earth. The one other planet that had a civilization was Mogadore, and Mogadorians were trying to search and hunt down all the Loriens who inhabited on Earth. Also, Just like Margot, John was different from his peers at school and did not fit in. But now the differences come in since John's superpowers for fighting against the Mogadorians made him stand out, but it was Margot's strange quietness, frail body, and unusual personality that made her bizarre. Text-to-World Connections: "All Summer in A Day" reminded me of Amanda Todd's bullying event. Amanda Todd was a fifteen-year-old teenage girl who committed suicide caused by online bullying, getting blackmailed, and physically and sexually assaults. Very identical to Amanda Todd, Margot was also teased and bullied by her equals without anyone supporting her side. They were both not accepted to be who they are in their contrasting environments and societies. Seeing from both of these narratives, I learned that tiny bullying events can lead to so much more as both of these tragic tales end in death and being locked away from a breath-taking event.
